Novak Djokovic showed his class as he publicly greeted the three stars of the US Open. The last Grand Slam of the year did not go according to plan for Djokovic, who once again aimed to overtake Margaret Court for most major singles titles.
However, he was unable to add to his tally of 24, suffering a shock third-round loss to Australian 28th seed Alexei Popyrin. But that didn’t stop him from supporting those who had far more successful tournaments.
In the absence of him and Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered an even more surprising second-round loss to unseeded Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner beat American Taylor Fritz in the men’s final – sending Djokovic a message to both after the match, as well as the women’s to the champion Aryna Sabalenka.
