Nick Kyrgios says whether he now regrets his behavior early in his career

Nick Kyrgios comments on how some of his lifestyle choices in his younger years impacted his career.

The Australian is an outspoken individual who will not let anything get in the way of what he wants to say or do.

On court, his aggressive and attacking game makes him a dangerous player and a threat to win many of the game’s biggest titles.

But one criticism of Nick Kyrgios is that for all the talent he possesses, he did not achieve more, and there may be as significant reason for that.

What did Nick Kyrgios say about his early career decisions?
Multiple injuries to his ankle, knee and wrist have limited the former Wimbledon runner-up to just one competitive match since November 2022.

During an appearance on the Tennis Insider Club podcast, Kyrgios spoke about the number of injuries he has sustained during his career.

He believes some decisions he made early in his career may have contributed to the injuries he has sustained that are impacting him later in his career, but has no regrets. “I was partying till 4 AM, then playing and then not sleeping and then just not warming up,” Kyrgios said.

“And then I had 10 good years and now you have injuries where maybe if I did things better they wouldn’t happen. I don’t regret it and I had fun, but at the same time, these are the latest stages of my career.”

Since then he has captured four ATP titles, reached the Wimbledon final and claimed the Australian Open doubles title alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis in 2022.

But following his injury woes over the past two years and the toll they take on his body, Kyrgios may be leaving the game of tennis sooner rather than later.

“I don’t want to play for too much longer, maybe one or two more years. So yeah, I mean I’m enjoying it, like being I guess, older on the tour,” he said.

“You got guys like Carlos Alcaraz at 21, winning Grand Slams, and I feel like I’ve been on the tour now for like 11-12 years. I think my body can’t take much more.”
