Anna Kalinskaya was spotted in her boyfriend Jannik Sinner’s box during the Italian’s 2024 US Open quarterfinal clash against Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday, September 4. Kalinskaya, despite exiting the women’s singles event in the third round, evidently stayed back in New York to cheer Sinner on as he looks to win his maiden US Open title.

Kalinskaya was the No. 15 seed in the women’s singles draw at the hardcourt Major. The Russian breezed into the third round after registering two straight-set victories against Lauren Davis and Anna Bondar. Here, she suffered a 3-6, 1-6, defeat to eventual quarterfinalist Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Meanwhile, Kalinskaya’s boyfriend Jannik Sinner came into the US Open under controversial circumstances. With days to go before the commencement of the hard-court Major, it was made public that the Italian had tested positive for a banned substance back in March. However, following an investigation led by an independent tribunal, the reigning Australian Open champion was cleared to play.

Despite receiving fierce backlash for perceived preferential treatment, Sinner made his way into the quarterfinals after defeating Mackenzie McDonald, Alex Michelsen, Christopher O’Connell and Tommy Paul. During his quarterfinal contest against former US Open champion and World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev, Anna Kalinskaya was captured by the cameras, cheering the Italian on from his box.

Earlier this year at the French Open, Sinner confirmed that he and Kalinskaya are in a relationship. The Italian’s confirmation came after the two were spotted supporting each other during their respective matches.

Jannik Sinner looking to cap off a successful Grand Slam season at US Open 2024

Jannik Sinner’s 2024 season has seen his tennis career hit new heights. The Italian won his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year, coming back from two sets and a break down against Daniil Medvedev, his quarterfinal opponent at the ongoing US Open.

At the French Open, Sinner reached the semifinals, where he clashed against rival Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian and the Spaniard produced a five-set marathon, but ultimately, it was eventual Roland Garros champion Alcaraz who prevailed.

The World No. 1 also had a relatively successful outing at the Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Medvedev. At the time of writing, Jannik Sinner looks in pole position to get the better of Medvedev at the 2024 US Open, with the Italian leading the Russian by two sets to one.

If the 23-year-old wins, he will take on 25th seed Jack Draper in the semifinals.
