Carlos Alcaraz recently attended the wedding of his close friend Fran Rubio. The latter also happens to be a pivotal part of the Spaniard’s team, in which he serves as a physio.
Alcaraz’s presence at Rubio’s wedding came on the back of the former World No. 1’s comprehensive 6-3, 6-3 win over France’s Ugo Humbert in the 2024 Davis Cup group stage. The reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion’s victory on Friday, September 13, helped Spain secure a place in the prestigious international team tennis event’s quarterfinals.Shortly after his dominant display against Ugo Humbert, Carlos Alcaraz made his way to Rubio’s wedding with partner Cristina Plaza. For the special occasion, the World No. 3 went with an almost all-black look consisting of a tuxedo, a tie, trousers and shoes. Only the Spaniard’s shirt was white.
Following the conclusion of the ceremony, Rubio and Plaza took to the dance floor. Alcaraz was also spotted dancing as he waved his napkin over his head; an act that has become a custom at Spanish weddings. The 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist also posed for photos with Rubio and other guests.Check out a photo and a video from Rubio’s wedding featuring Alcaraz below:
On the court, Alcaraz’s recent Davis Cup victories over Czech Tomas Machac (walkover) and Humbert have marked a return to form for the Spaniard after multiple poor displays during the US Open Series.
Carlos Alcaraz suffered early exits from both the Cincinnati Open and the US Open this year
An emotionally draining outing at the Paris Olympics clearly took a toll on Carlos Alcaraz, and it was evident during the US Open Series. The Spaniard chose to sit out the National Bank Open in Montreal, the North American summer hardcourt swing’s first ATP Masters 1000 event. However, he returned to action at the next one in Cincinnati, where he finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic in 2023.
Unfortunately, the World No. 3 was stunned by veteran Frenchman Gael Monfils in the second round. At the US Open, Alcaraz started his campaign with a win, but was uncharacteristically poor in the second round against Botic van de Zandschulp, eventually losing to the Dutchman in straight sets.Carlos Alcaraz’s next outing is set to be at the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, where he is slated to be a part of a star-studded Team Europe lineup, also featuring Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
