Kim Clijsters speculated about Emma Raducanu having the wrong people in her team. The Belgian believes the Brit’s scheduling decisions leading up to the 2024 US Open were incorrect and fans agreed with her remarks.
Raducanu showed promise at the Wimbledon Championships this year as she reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time since her 2021 US Open triumph. In the hardcourt swing, she reached the quarterfinal of the Citi Open but did not play any more tournaments before the US Open.At the New York Major, the Brit was beaten by Sofia Kenin in three sets in the first round. During a recent episode of ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ podcast Clijsters and Roddick disapproved of the 21-year-old’s scheduling.
The three-time US Open champion stated that she does not know Raducanu or her team personally but was obvious that there was “some misguidance there”.Clijsters’ comments were posted on Reddit and fans agreed with her. They were surprised with the decision-making as well.
“It was crazy that she played literally zero warm up tournaments and then somehow didn’t expect to fail miserably?” one fan asked.
I don’t think anyone disputes that the tournament choices have been bad, but who is making them is the bigger question,” another fan wrote.
One fan recalled that she fired her coach, Andrew Richardson, soon after winning the US Open. They claimed all her decisions since that triumph were questionable. They wrote:
“Her every decision after the US Open was questionable. Why would you fire your coach after a fine Wimbledon performance and winning US Open? She has never reached that level again.”
