Boris Becker and his girlfriend of two years, Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, tied the knot on Saturday in Italy, getting married in a heartwarming albeit intimate ceremony. This is the German’s third marriage, having previously been married to German actress Barbara Feltus (1993-2001) and Dutch model Sharlely Kerssenberg (2009-2018).
Becker and Lilian, a high-profile political risk manager, started dating in 2022. Lilian was involved with the former World No. 1 when he was charged with a prison sentence that year for hiding assets in his bankruptcy declaration. Since he got out of prison soon after, the pair have been inseparable.
On September 14, they made their relationship as official as could be, celebrating a three-day wedding ceremony. In attendance were Becker’s sons Noah and Elias, as well as ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi. Other guests include the likes of Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit and German model Boris Kodjoe.
Since he got out of prison in time for Christmas 2022, Becker has taken up an active role in the tennis world. In addition to serving as a commentator for Eurosport during various tournaments, the six-time Grand Slam champion also briefly served as Holger Rune’s coach before their partnership ended prematurely.
“I hope that I can spend the rest of my life happily in peace and freedom” – Boris Becker
The German has also credited his children as motivation and hopes to spend the rest of his life, now with his wife Lilian, in peace and freedom.
“Everything that motivates me is because of my children. I hope that I can spend the rest of my life happily in peace and freedom. I’m happy, I’m motivated. I have to work. I’m not too bad about it. I’m grateful that actually all my partners stayed with me and gave me a second chance. I need to win back her endorsement. I think I’ve learned a lot in eight months and six days and I think I’ve become a better man than I was before,” Becker said in a conversation with German TV broadcaster Sat 1.
Having retired in 1999, Becker now lives in Germany, having been deported back to his home country after being imprisoned in the UK in 2022.
