Former world No. 7 Barbara Schett has expressed her disappointment with Iga Swiatek’s recent performances at Wimbledon and the US Open, stating she isn’t surprised by Swiatek’s decision to seek a new direction.
Although Swiatek has spent over 120 weeks as the WTA’s top player, she has secured only two Grand Slam titles in the past two years, both at the French Open, where she has claimed four of her five Major titles. Her only other victory came at the US Open in 2022.
Schett explained, “I’m not surprised she’s looking for guidance outside of Poland. She needs a fresh perspective and new challenges. I was quite disappointed by her one-dimensional play at Wimbledon and the US Open, where she struggled to adapt tactically.
“While she was giving it her all, she wasn’t really searching for effective solutions. There’s definitely room for her to grow, learning when to hold back and when to be more aggressive.”
