The most-anticipated women’s quarterfinal of the U.S. Open will be played on Wednesday when top-ranked Iga Swiatek faces in-form Jessica Pegula at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek is aiming for her second title at Flushing Meadows, having won the hard-court major in 2022.
The Polish player is one of three players in the top half of the draw to progress without losing a set, going unbroken in her wins over Ena Shibahara, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Liudmila Samonsova.
Swiatek, who has faced just four break points in the tournament, said she expects a challenging match against Pegula, who is seeded sixth.
Pegula has also won all her matches in straight sets and will be playing in her seventh Grand Slam quarterfinal — and second in New York.
The American has won 13 of her 14 hard-court matches this summer – a run that included the title in Toronto and the final in Cincinnati, where she lost to world no. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.
“Against Jessie, it’s never easy,” Swiatek said. “It’s going to be, for sure, a tough one, because she plays a really flat ball with no spin. You have to really work low on your legs.
“For sure she’s in a good rhythm right now, and she won so many matches the past weeks, that for sure it’s going to be a challenge.”
